Looking for a place to stay, groceries, or gear in Escalante?
We'll help you find it.
Remember, cell phones do not work here!
- Groceries: Griffin's Groceries located in the center
of town on Main Street has produce, meats, and basic food
supplies. If you have special dietary needs bring them with
you. Hours are 8 am to 7 pm. Closed
Sundays.
- Gas / Auto Service: There are three gas stations in
town, each with 24 hour credit card pumps. The Cottam's 66 has a
mechanic on duty Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm.
- Food Service: There are a variety of places to eat in
town and here are a few of our favorites:
- Cowboy Blues on the west side of town is a full
service restaurant with good food, beer, and mixed drinks.
- Georgie's Corner on Main Street is a great place to
enjoy Mexican food, salads, and sandwiches after a long
hike.
- Trailhead Cafe on Main Street is open for lunch
Thursday thru Monday. Their hamburgers with fresh herbs are
prepared in a way seldom seen in these parts.
- Guide Service:
Utah Canyons Guided Day Hikes is
located in the Utahcanyons Desert Adventure Store.
- Emergencies: CALL 911
There is a clinic open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
behind Griffin's Grocery. The nearest pharmacy and hospital is
in Panguitch, about 70 miles away. Garfield County Search and
Rescue has a unit here and Life Flight is available.
- Bank / ATM: Wells Fargo on Main Street open Monday -
Friday, 8 am - 3 pm. 24 hour ATM.
- Water: Be sure to keep a couple of gallons of water
in your vehicle. This is dry country.

Utah Canyons Desert Adventure Store The pink building on the West end
of Main Street is the place to go for local knowledge. We
carry not only a complete selection of guide books and maps
(including waterproof customized topo's), we also feature Photo,
Natural history and fiction titles. Our gear is "desert tested"
so we know what works and what to bring for the season of your
visit. Besides the basics, such as fuel, food, and great hats,
we have all the odd desert specific gear and some fun stuff like
organic cotton t-shirts, unique cards and souvenir stickers. |
